2020 FRANCHISE & TRANSITION TAGS

Teams must tag players with Expired Contracts by July 31 by replying on their respective Preseason Roster post.

Each team should have reviewed its list of 'Signed Players' and 'Expired Contracts.'

• Although the league lists an Expired Contract on your respective rosters, the player may no longer be on your roster.  These contracts were culled from the list post-Auction Draft but does not take into account whether the owner waived the player during the season.
• A player must be on a team's final 2019 Yahoo roster to qualify for a Franchise/Transition Tag.
• As an example, Rob Gronkowski is listed under Tonz Thunderin Herd's Expired Contracts.  However, Tony waived Gronkowski to sign TE Trey Burton on December 10, 2019.  Gronk is therefore an UFA and will be available on ADD.

Players with expired contracts are Unrestricted Free Agents (UFA) and will be available in Free Agency (Auction Draft Day).  However, a team does have the following tag options to keep players whose contracts have expired:

1. Exclusive Franchise tag
2. Non-Exclusive Franchise tag
3. Transition tag

EXCLUSIVE FRANCHISE TAG - EFT

A team can use ONE Exclusive Franchise Tag on any of its players whose contract has expired.

• Salary is the designated Franchise Tag salary by position.  (Average of the Top 5 salaries by position),
• The team must post if it's a 1-year or 2-year contact.
• Being 'exclusive,' other teams cannot bid on such a tagged player.  The tagging team automatically signs its player.

NON-EXCLUSIVE FRANCHISE TAG - NEFT

A team can use ONE Non-Exclusive Franchise Tag on any of its players whose contract has expired.

• Salary is the designated Franchise Tag salary by position. (Average of the Top 5 salaries by position).
• The team must post if it's a 1-year or 2-year contact.
• Other teams can bid on NEFT players.
• If the tagging team does not match the highest bid by another team, the winning team signs the NEFT.
• The winning team must compensate the tagging team with a 2020 First Round Pick.
• Teams without a 2020 First Round Pick cannot bid on NEFTs.

 TRANSITION TAG - TT

A team can use ONE Transition Tag on any of its players whose contract has expired.

• Salary is the designated Transition Tag salary by position. (Average of the Top 10 salaries by position).
• The team must post if it's a 1-year or 2-year contact.
• Other teams can bid on TT players.
• If the tagging team does not match the highest bid by another team, the winning team signs the TT player.
• The winning team must compensate the tagging team with a 2020 Second Round Pick.
• Teams without a 2020 Second Round Pick cannot bid on TTs.
