In previous years, we had 5 rounds in our annual College Draft. We stashed our draft picks on our teams' Practice Squads up to 10 players. But we also used CBS Sports for custom league management.
If the majority wants to retain the College Draft (which would resume next year in 2018), here are my suggestions:
August 21, 2007 (From our Yahoo Group vault).
Ron and the OC Destroyers are on the clock. As with previous drafts, teams have 24 hours to make its 1st round selection. Ron, you have until 8:30 PM Wednesday night. We're still finalizing teams and owners, but the 1st three picks should go quickly with Ron and JF to follow. Mark Fabie had the #4 pick. Rex may take over that team. He has emailed me that he wanted in but we have yet to speak and he has yet to select a team to take over. Mike's team will be dissolved (unless Vince gets 2 new owners). Edgar, Melvin, then Brad will pick next. Henson's team will also be dissolved (unless Vince gets 2 new owners as stated above). Vince's regular pick then comes next, then Clemente. Garry will be managing Tony's team and will pick next. Bob is next, having Patrick's pick. Tex selects last since he takes over last year's championship team. Vince said he's open to a trade... anyone surprised?! A college draft pick automatically is slotted to the team's Practice Squad (PS) and does not count against the $100 Salary Cap. Trading a PS player for a PS player does not include any cap hits for either team.
Let's get this party started.

If the majority wants to retain the College Draft (which would resume next year in 2018), here are my suggestions:
- College Draft picks would be non-tradable.
- Only one round.
- Each draft pick would have a salary of $1.
Please comment below whether you want to bring back the College Draft. If not, all rookies will be available for bid in the Auction Draft.

JaMarcus Russell
Ouch, I know. As the first pick in the 2007 draft and a holdout until mid-September, Russell signed a six-year contract with total potential value of $68M (his chances of making that sum have vanished) and guarantees of over $31.5M. At the time, the guaranteed portion of the contract made him the second-highest paid quarterback in the league, trailing only Peyton Manning (both have since been eclipsed by another first-round pick in the draft, Matthew Stafford).
Russell is in the third year of a contract that has made him the poster child for a rookie compensation system, one that will be addressed in bargaining between the NFL and NFL Players Association in the coming months.
So far in his career, in earning his $31.5M – it’s hard to believe he will earn more than the guaranteed portion of the contract — Russell has played in 24 games with an average passer rating of 67.6. Thanks to Browns QB Derek Anderson, Russell’s current rating of 42.7 is only second-to-last in the NFL, although his completion percentage of 42.1 percent is rock bottom.
Russell may be the player in the NFL who has done the least to make the most. NATIONAL FOOTBALL POST

Lane Kiffin wanted to draft WR Calvin Johnson, but owner Al Davis wanted Jamarcus Russell.
Imagine if Al had listened to his young coach. Wow.
