Quick Hits Before Owners Assign Contract Years
Every owner knows that we switched from $100 Salary Cap to $200 Salary Cap. We will carry forward some of our old rules but will modify some:
- [message]
- $100 Free Agent Acquisition Budget:
- Previously, the $100 Salary Cap was the only one we used for the Auction Draft and for the rest of the season. Teams had to waive or trade players to open up cap space.
- Salary Cap Hits:
- Previously, there was an Accelerated Cap Hit when waiving or trading a player with multiple years left on his contract. We will carry this forward. However, the cap hit affects your FAAB. When you cut or trade a player with 1-year left on his contract, the team suffers a 20% Cap Hit on the FAAB.
- College Draft:
- Instead of a 5-Round College Draft, let's have a 2-Round College Draft starting next year 2018. Each draft pick will have a $1 salary. The cap hit affects the $200 cap or the FAAB, depending on when a team activates the player. My initial thought is draft picks get 3- or 4-year contracts.
- Franchise Tag:
- Remember that the tag always ends up with a raise for the player. I mistakenly put 'franchise tag salary' or 20% raise (whichever is higher). That's the NFL. We've always used 25% raise in NYOFACE. Also, when another team puts in a bid for a Non-Exclusive Franchise Player, compensation was TWO First Round Picks. Want to lower to ONE First Round Pick?
- Transition Tag:
- Remember the 25% raise. For compensation, we used ONE First Round Pick if the team did not match the offer. Lower to a SECOND Round Pick?
- Practice Squad:
- In Sportsline, I was able to customize a Practice Squad of 10 in addition to the Active Roster of 20 in prior years. Here's what I propose since we use Yahoo: 1) Add 2 to the roster size each year after the College Draft until we hit 30; 2) Each team will still have $200 for the Auction Draft minus the salaries of the players on your roster prior to the Auction Draft.
