In 2018, OwnerA traded away a starter for OwnerB's 2019 First Rd Pick. It turned out to be a pretty high pick.
Background
- In 2018, OwnerA traded away a starter for OwnerB's 2019 First Rd Pick.
- It turned out to be a pretty high pick.
- Both owners lost track for one reason or another in 2019.
- OwnerB made his 2019 First Rd pick -- which really belonged to OwnerA.
- If OwnerA had gotten that player, he would’ve used his own First Rd pick on a different position.
- The 2019 season would've been different for both teams to say the least.
Proposal 1 By An Owner Not Involved
- OwnerA gets the player picked in 2019. *** But how do you compensate for the lost year at $1?
Proposal 2
- OwnerA gets the player picked in 2019.
- Plus “You can do where the team that forgot to relinquish the '19 #1 pick has to give the other team its '20 first round pick for the other team's '20 second round pick.”
Proposal 3
- OwnerA gets the First Round pick he’s owed.
- OwnerB’s pick this year isn’t quite as high. To compensate, teams can swap 2nd round picks.
Proposal 4
- Same as Prop3, except swap is: OwnerA gets 2020 2nd rounder; OwnerB gets 2021 2nd rounder.
Proposal 5
- “It’s a rookie. Who cares? Both owners are at fault. Forget about it."
We all know what a $1 rookie means to all our cap-strapped teams, especially if it’s a high first rounder.
While we're talking about league management, I’ve thought about moving to a different site for easier management where each owner may pay $10-15 each as we used to do on Sportsline. Or we can stay put (since it’ll be more work for me if we move) and you guys pay me $5-10 each. Thoughts?
After all that, OwnerB has agreed to Proposal 4:
- OwnerA gets OwnerB’s 2020 First Round pick, although it's not as good as the 2019 pick.
- To compensate for the difference, as well as the 2019 effect & lost year, OwnerB and OwnerA would swap Second Round picks. OwnerA would get OwnerB's 2020 Second Rd pick; OwnerB will get OwnerA’s 2021 Second Rd pick.
League Office's take: OwnerB giving up this year's First Round Pick is "cleaner" than giving up the player selected last year due to the "lost season at $1." Think $1 Kyle Murray, or $1 Lamar Jackson, or even $1 DK Metcalf / Deebo Samuel for one season. An owner said it's not fair because this year's draft is loaded compared to last year's. Who's to say? For those who have been in NYOFACE since our Rookie Draft in 2004 or 2005, we all remember the early first rounders, even the top picks, who were duds.
