Leonard Fournette and A.J. Green are swapping teams to bolster their respective positions.  Fournette addressed the trade, “I’m ready to be the Workhorse and show the league I’m a top back!”  Across the other side of the state, Green said, “Eyeing the HOF, ready to get to work.”

COMMISSIONER'S CORNER - 8/16 UPDATE

My first take was that this was an even deal, a win-win for both sides.  Melvin gets an elite WR in A.J. Green, while Clemente gets an elite RB in Leonard Fournette.  I was thinking this was similar to A.J. Green for Alvin Kamara.  But upon review, this deal leans in Melvin's favor.

  In trading Leonard Fournette, Melvin suffers no cap hit since Fournette is on the last year of his contract. In getting A.J. Green, Melvin does not take a hit in 2018. But the big catch is this-- A.J. Green only costs Melvin $14 in 2019.
• CLEMENTE
  In trading A.J. Green, Clemente suffers a $14 cap hit to his 2018 FAAB.  Clemente does not take a hit in 2018 for Fournette.  But while Melvin gets Green in 2019 on the cheap at $14, Clemente can only retain Fournette in 2019 if he tags him.  The 2019 Franchise/Transition Salaries should be a little bit higher than this year, but let's use those.  If Clemente were to Transition Tag Fournette in 2019, Fournette would cost at least $49; if he uses a Franchise Tag, Fournette costs at least $59!

Why not an A.J. Green for Alvin Kamara trade?  Both teams get an elite player on the cheap for 2019.  That's the win-win deal between these two teams.

If it's Fournette for Green, Clemente is getting Fournette and giving up A.J. Green but also $35-45 in salary cap space!  If Clemente does not retain Fournette in 2019, Melvin can sign him with the $45 Clemente gave him.  👀  If Clemente has a man-crush on Fournette (like I do with Garoppolo), a First Round Pick throw-in sounds fair, or at least a 2nd rounder.
