Tony & Tonz Thunderin Bears land top scorer Aaron Rodgers

Starters

Tony Palisoc was able to sign Cal alumnus QB Aaron Rodgers for only $42!  Rodgers was the only player to score more than 500 points in 2016.  His 2016 season was worth at least $75.  With the switch to PPR, most teams spent freely on wide receivers and running backs.  Rodgers even came in second in quarterback salaries, behind Tom Brady's $48 signing.

The Thunderin Bears spent $181 (or 90.5% of its $200 Salary Cap) but tight end Rob Gronkowski at $44 would seem to be overpriced.  That's an elite wide receiver's salary and Gronk will even be hard-pressed to overtake Kelce as the top tight end.  Can Marshawn Lynch still bring on "Beast Mode" or his $30 salary another Cal alum signing?

Defense & Special Teams:  Tony signed two $1 defenses, the highest of which, Los Angeles Chargers, is only projected to be the the 23rd best defense by Yahoo.  The San Francisco 49ers Defense is projected to be dead last.

Contract Years

Teams need to submit Contract Years (CY) for each of their players.  I will extend the deadline to this Sunday September 10, 11 PM PST.  If a team does not submit Contract Years for a player, that player receives the minimum 1-year contract.

Previously, our league had maximum 5-year contracts.  Starting this  year, NYOFACE has maximum 2-year contracts.  Players signed via FAAB during the regular season, by default, have 1-year contracts.

Owners can submit their CYs by replying to the post on his/her team.

2018 Free Agency

Players signed to 1-year contracts this year become Free Agents next offseason.  These players can be signed in the last day of NYOFACE's Free Agency Signing Period -- our Auction Draft.

At the beginning of the offseason, each team can use the following to sign its free agents:

When a contract expires, whether it's an individual player or DST, the player/DST becomes a UFA (Unrestricted Free Agent) available in the upcoming Auction Draft.  A team can only retain that UFA if it puts the Franchise or Transition Tag on that player/DST. 

In the NFL, a Franchise/Transition Tag results in a 1-year contract, giving the team and the player's agent time to negotiate a long term deal. In NYOFACE, we build into our tag the team-agent negotiation and long-term deal. August 30, 2008

Here's a quick description of the NFL's use of the Franchise & Transition Tags.

• Non-Exclusive Franchise Tag
• This is the most commonly used tag. When most people refer to the "franchise tag" it's generally the non-exclusive version to which they are discussing. It is a one-year tender offer to a player for an amount no less than the average of the top five salaries at the player's position over the last five years, or 120 percent of the player's previous salary, whichever is greater. The player can negotiate with other teams. The player's current team has the right to match any offer, or receive two first-round picks as compensation.
• Exclusive Franchise Tag
• A one-year tender offer to a player for an amount no less than the average of the top five salaries at the player's position for the current year, or 120 percent of the player's previous salary, whichever is greater. The player's team has all negotiating rights to the player. The bump in pay scale (current average salary versus averaging past five years of data) means only the crème de la crème get this tag (think: Drew Brees or Von Miller).
• Transition Tag
• Think of this as the "you are pretty good, and we might want to keep you, but aren't willing to put a ring on you ourselves" tag. The transition designation is a one-year tender offer to a player for an amount that is the average of the top 10 salaries at the position -- as opposed to top five. It guarantees the original club the right of first refusal to match any offer the player might receive from another team, but no compensation if the team chooses not to match.

In NYOFACE, each team can use one each of the Non-Exclusive Franchise Tag, Exclusive Franchise Tag, and the Transition Tag.  Below are the Franchise & Transition Tag salaries by position to be used for the 2018 Free Agency.
